    Hi, New User here.

I have installed NoMachine (free version 6.2.4) on my six home computers and laptops with a combination of Windows OS’s including XP Pro, Win 7 Pro, and Win 7 64 Bit.

On the two Win 7 64 bit desktops, the program runs fine and I can start the server with a gateway port.  On these machines, I also get the taskbar icon to access the program.

On another Win7 laptop, I can run the program, but when I try to configure the server, if I check the box for the gateway port, I get the message “Failed to map the port on the Gateway”.  I can start the server, but there is no gateway port connected.  Also, on this machine, the taskbar icon does not appear.  I have browsed through the forum to no avail, and also browsed through the config files.

On another Win XP Pro laptop I have similar issues to the above, and on another WinXP Pro desktop, I cannot connect but have not been able to start to troubleshoot that and it may be a network issue.

I am open to suggestions to get this working.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi sledjunk.

The fact that you don’t see the taskbar icon on that machine may be the reason of not rebooting the system after install. If you didn’t reboot the machine after installing NoMachine, please try now and see what happens. It will not map port if server and node is not running.

I had rebooted the machine multiple times with no success.  However, I have resolved the issues on all of the machines by uninstalling NoMachine, removing all files and folders (including .nx) and then reinstalling.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    Update:

On a WinXP Pro laptop, I have installed and removed then re installed a couple of times.  NoMachine server still refuses to start.  Or rather, to be more specific, when I press the button to start the server, it says the service is starting and then it obviously fails as the button goes back to the state to start the server.  When I try to configure the server, I get the problem listed above then I click the checkbox to map the gateway port.

I have tried to export the log file, but nothing is created.  Not really sure what I should be looking for, though.

Still hoping for more suggestions, please.

Please can you collect debug logs from Windows XP host, following this document https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00163.

Also, after enabling debug logs restart NoMachine server and then collect logs.

Please upload logs to the forum topic, and if logs are too big, please send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com making sure referencing forum topic.

I have edited the node.cfg and server.cfg files, but cannot copy them back into the /etc folder.  I am getting permissions denied.  This is using the administrator account in XP.  I have tried also booting in safe mode but still no luck.

    Thanks for the help

Update again.  Using subinacl, I changed the permissions on NoMachine\etc to full access for everyone.  This still did not allow me to copy the cfg files.  However, I was ale to make a copy of the \etc folder.  I then removed the real \etc folder using unlocker as it was the only thing that I found that would allow access.  I then renamed the ‘Copy of etc’ to ‘etc’.

I was able to restart NoMachine and gather logs.  I have attached a compressed file containing the log as well as my node.cfg and server.cfg files.

Create a compressed archive of the NoMachine’s /var/log directory located on Windows XP in
    Documents and Settings/All Users/NoMachine/var/log.

Thanks fisherman.   Here is the zip file.

Please note that I received warnings when zipping this that nxserviced.log and nxservice.log were in use and could be corrupted if the program was writing to the file during the zip process.

hi sledjunk, I’m going to send you a private email with further instructions. The logs you submitted didn’t help us. We would need you to install a debug package and extract the logs again (after you’ve reproduced the problem).

Thanks for the debug version.  I have installed it and sent you the zipped log files by return email.  I will also attach them here.

The nxservice.log is missing from the received logs, I’m not sure why.

From the logs you submitted we can see there are some issues with access rights issue related to log dir like:

Cannot change access rights: C:\NoMachine\logs\nxserver.log to Read-Write. Error is 2,
    No such file or directory.

Could it be that you changed the NoMachine log path some time and therefore you don’t have the correct permissions in place?
    – Remove old installation of NoMachine
    – Reboot Windows
    – Install NoMachine again with default install and log location
    – Reboot machine
