I’m running Ubuntu 22.04. I’ve opened a text file with gedit. When I access the computer through NoMachine from a Windows NoMachine client I cannot resize the gedit window (I also don’t get the special resize cursors). If I connect directly to the computer everything works just fine.
I’m using:
NoMachine service 8.4.2 on Ubuntu 22.04.
NoMachine client 8.1.2 on Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2.Any ideas how to fix it?

February 24, 2023 at 09:43 #43067BritgirlKeymasterWe checked on the fly and didn’t reproduce your issue.
NoMachine service 8.4.2 -> do you have the Free Edition installed or something else?
If I connect directly to the computer everything works just fine.
Do you mean if you connect with NoMachine to the physical desktop everything works fine? Please clarify this point.

Are you connecting to a virtual desktop? Can you submit screenshots or a recording from session start to the point where you reproduce the problem.
February 24, 2023 at 20:38 #43078FreddyBZParticipantI am using the free edition for now (we have licenses and I’ll move to a licensed version later).
In “connect directly” I mean – without NoMachine. There is nothing special to see on the screen. I do:
1. Open a file with gedit, or open a terminal.
2. Hover the mouse above a corner or an edge of the window.
3. Without NoMachine the mouse cursor changes to two small triangles oriented in the resize direction. With NoMachine the cursor does not change and I cannot resize the window. This does not happen on my Chrome browser or my kdiff3 program.
April 28, 2023 at 16:47 #44054BritgirlKeymasterPlease check the following:
– if scaling mode is enabled in the Player, try to disable it.
– enable ‘Show remote cursor’ and check whether the remote cursor’s shape changes or not
– is desktop scaling set in the OS settings of the Windows machine perhaps?April 28, 2023 at 17:34 #44058FreddyBZParticipant@Britgirl,
I’ve tried with or without scaling mode.
I’ve tried to enable and disable “show remote cursor”.
I’m not sure what you meant in the third item.April 28, 2023 at 17:37 #44060BritgirlKeymasterI’m not sure what you meant in the third item.
I meant on the Windows machine you are connecting from. Do you have a custom desktop scaling set to maybe 125%, for example?
April 28, 2023 at 17:41 #44061FreddyBZParticipant@Britgirl,
On my Windows I have a dual monitor configuration. The monitor on which NoMachine runs – which is the secondary – is using 100% scaling (the primary monitor uses 200%).May 19, 2023 at 16:23 #44340BritgirlKeymasterPlease confirm the following:
1) desktop environment on the Ubuntu server
2) is wayland or xorg running there
3) that it happens only with some applications, not all
4) are you able to eventually find the exact point with the cursor and successfully resize? Also, a recording or screenshots.
Thanks.
May 29, 2023 at 14:51 #44442prestoParticipantI’m seeing the same issue, it appears to be localized to Ubuntu 22.04 only.
My client is running on MacOS 13.4 (Ventura) and I’ve tested connecting to 3 different operating systems (all with default NoMachine Server configurations); Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 20.04 both running on amd64 (Intel PC) and Debian 11 (Bulleye) on arm64 (on a Raspberry Pi 4).
All the NoMachine installs (Client and Server) are running your version 8.5.3.
The other two operating system configurations run just fine (no issues with application window resizing) however with Ubuntu 22.04 connected via NoMachine I cannot resize windows. The applications I’m using to test are Files, Terminal and LibreOffice Writer. In each case, when connected via NoMachine I either can not resize the application window at all or I can resize the application window in width once only (after which I can’t resize it again in either direction). If I am directly connected to the machine via a local terminal then there are no issues with resizing windows.
The settings for window resizing etc are identical in each case.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
May 29, 2023 at 15:56 #44446BritgirlKeymasterCan you provide answers for 1 and 2 in my last reply?
May 29, 2023 at 16:35 #44447prestoParticipantAnswers to your questions… I suspect you already knew the answer here 🙂
1) desktop environment on the Ubuntu server
It’s running the standard Gnome implementation that ships with Ubuntu 22.04
2) is wayland or xorg running there
The result of “echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE” is “wayland” on Ubuntu 22.04 (amd64) and “x11” on Ubuntu 20.04 (amd64) and Debian 11 (arm64).
Disabling wayland on the Ubuntu 22.04 server appears to resolve the issue. Application windows now resize correctly for all of the applications I’ve tested.
However since wayland is now the default for Ubuntu, do you plan to resolve the issue for wayland installations at some point?

May 31, 2023 at 17:14 #44460prestoParticipantOne small issue I see that with X11 running the login screen flickers after you have entered the user password and before the session becomes active. Once the session is active all is well. Only a small issue but worth noting.
May 31, 2023 at 17:48 #44461FreddyBZParticipantMy desktop on the Ubuntu server (like presto’s post above) is the standard Gnome used by Ubuntu 22.04 and it’s running on Wayland.
I’ve tried switching from Wayland to x.org but had problems and I don’t have the time to look into them so I’m still using Wayland, and I still with the problems of this post.
Any chances of this being fixed?
Freddy
June 30, 2023 at 14:08 #44774prestoParticipantI tried this again in version 8.6.1 – no change. Using Wayland it is not possible to resize windows, Using X11 it is.
With Wayland, no flickering login screen, with X11 flickering login screen.
August 24, 2023 at 11:10 #45234BritgirlKeymasterWe are still unable to reproduce the problem with resize connecting from any OS to Ubuntu 22 with Wayland. What I suggest is everyone update to the latest version (8.8) and open a new topic, not forgetting to submit logs from both NoMachine client and server sides.
“With Wayland, no flickering login screen, with X11 flickering login screen.”
Also here, this requires a new topic separate from the resize issue.
