Run applications from mounted device

Is it possible to run applications from a mounted device?

I would like to store Windows applications on a Linux file server and be able to mount the Linux device to my local windows desktop and be able to run the apps….

Basically doing what I can do with Samba.

Also is it possible to mount individual directories rather than the whole drive?

I’m new to NoMachine and haven’t found very much documentation about configuring drive mounts.

Is this mount functionality in NoMachine for file transfers only?

Sure.

Yes. You need to change DiskSharingList key in the node.cfg (/usr/NX/etc/node.cfg) on server host which you want to connect. Uncomment key and change value from “all” to path which you want to mount. For example:
DiskSharingList "$(HOME)/Public"

Still having trouble running a Windows application mounted from a Linux directory mounted on a windows workstation.

Here’s my test setup…     configured   DiskSharingList "$(HOME)  on my linux file server.

I put putty.exe in my Linux home directory.

From my Windows workstation, I used NoMachine to log into my Linux fileserver.

I mounted my Linux home directory to my Windows desktop, then opened the Linux home directory folder.

When I try to run putty.exe I get    “The parameter is incorrect”  error.

If I copy the putty.exe to my local Windows desktop, it works just fine.

Are there other permission settings in NoMachine that I need to set?

Never mind.

I was testing this on a Windows machine that I had already RDP’d to from a Linux machine.

When I tested directly from a Windows workstation, everything worked fine.

Whilst we were investigating we found a similar issue which is affecting Windows 7 when an application is placed on the NoMachine mounted disk.
