I’ve had a flawlessly working setup for a while: Linux client connecting to macOS Ventura server.

However, I just installed Sonoma in a separate partition to test it out, copying everything over from Ventura, and have this one major problem: the mouse/keyboard input from the client is not getting to the server. Same settings as on Ventura.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I also tried removing the ~/.nx directory on the server.

There was another problem with access permissions for the server to stream the desktop contents to the client player, but that was easily fixed by allowing access in the System Settings.

I also get that problem mentioned elsewhere about failed authentication whenever I try to change the NM server settings. I found other people describing the problem but I didn’t find what the solution is.

I can connect to the machine via traditional [removed] and input works fine.

    Help, please!

    Cheers.

This sounds like a permissions problem. Go to accessibility and screen recording permissions, remove nomachine/nxnode, then restart the NoMachine server (server settings > status > restart the server). Then go back to macOS System Preferences accessibility and screen recording and add permissions for the NoMachine application again.  Check this illustrated guide on how to do this https://kb.nomachine.com/AR11Q01061)

I can’t restart the server from the NM settings because I get the “Authentication failed, please try again” error. But I can restart via the command-line “sudo /etc/NX/nxserver --restart“, which I assume is equivalent.

One of the permission settings was not activated, so I’ll give it a test soon, thanks.

I was able to test it straight away actually and yes, that fixed it, thank you!

sudo /etc/NX/nxserver --restart through the command line is of course ok. I gave you the GUI-based option 🙂
