FritzParticipantIs there a shortcut to switch from remote screen to local (my) screen, or is that a function of the MacOS that needs to be assigned?

BritgirlKeymasterDo you mean how to switch between running local applications, like Cmd+Tab?

FritzParticipantYes and no. I’m on my friends Mac via NoMa. But I want to switch back to my local Mac to look for something. Cmd/tab rotates thru his open apps when I trigger
One way to do this is with Mission Control and Spaces. Problem is, if I trigger MC (Cntl/up arrow) it triggers MC on his Mac. If I Cmd/M (minimize) NoMa, the only way back to his screen (that I have found) is to bring it back from the dock as there is no “un-minimize” shortcut in MacOS.
I was wondering if there is a (NoMa) key shortcut to do the equivalent of Cmd/tab but include my local instance of NoMa in the rotation? Or is it a situ where the MacOS takes priority?
I hope that makes sense.

FritzParticipantthe other thing related to this same issue is that if I hit Cmd/W the NoMa window closes, unless I toggle keyboard control.
Perhaps when remotely using NoMa the close NoMa window would be triggered by an alternative keystroke? Cmd/opt/W or the like. Leaving Cmd/W to the MacOS. But again, maybe that’s not possible because the MacOS take priority?

TorParticipantHi Fritz.
When you connect to a remote system, by default all the system shortcuts (like Command + Tab to cycle through applications on macOS) are not sent to the remote desktop. You can forward ALL shortcuts by enabling the option “Grab the keyboard input” in the Menu > Input panel.
The reason why I’m unsure about your issue is that you’re reporting two conflicting reports: Command + Tab cycles remote applications (like when grab keyboard is enabled), but Command + W closes the client window (like when grab keyboard is disabled). This is quite unexpected, there must be something that is somehow interfering with the normal keyboard input.
1. If you press Command + Space, does Spotlight open on your local Mac or on the remote system?
2. Do you use one or more applications on your macOS that intercept and process keyboard input?
3. What Mac system do you use as client?
4. What is your macOS version?
5. If you’re using a macbook, do you use an external keyboard? In such a case, did you try to compare it with the built-in keyboard?March 20, 2026 at 18:28 #55730
FritzParticipantHi Tor.
1. I’ll get back to you on that. Though I don’t use spotlight on my local. But that combo does open the keyboard viewer.
I gather what your asking is which Mac sees the shortcut.2. On my local, yes. Most notably, QuickSilver launcher & Karabiner to create a “hyperkey”.
3 & 4. I’m on Sequoia 15.7.4 on a 2018 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 mini w/64G.5. No Macbooks involved. The remote is an M1 mini running Ventura 13.7.8.
Other than mousing into my “local” Finder, there is no shortcut to “escape” NoMa?
Or if there is under “normal” conditions, what would that be? Just the escape key or something else?
Hmmm, perhaps I need to create a shortcut in QS to escape NoMa …..April 5, 2026 at 18:58 #55842
FritzParticipantFixed the close window issue. I changed the key shortcut for closing the window with NoMa.
settings/keyboard/shortcuts/app shortcuts/NoMa/Close Window:
^W.
So now NoMa will disregard Cmd/W.Switching from the remote screen to my local screen without mousing works fine with: ^/opt/K
Long story short, I’m good.
