The second Virtual Desktop controls the first one

Hi all,

I am using the latest NoMachine server and client (4.3.24_1 ) on Red Hat Linux 6.5 with GNOME 2.0. I use SSH to connect.

I made two connections and created two GNOME virtual desktop, using the same user account.

The problem is that it seems the second desktop is controlling the first desktop’s gnome session.

For example, on the second desktop, run “gconf-editor” and then change its background, both desktops’ background will be changed.

And it seems the first desktop lost control. If I then changed the background on the first desktop, it has no effect at all on either first or second desktop.

When you run multiple instances of Gnome owned by the same user, it is expected the they share the same settings. That is, the choice user made for the desktop background is applied to all the running instances of Gnome.

About the first desktop losing the control, it looks less normal and seems to be a problem in Gnome, triggered when multiple desktops share the same configuration files.

If I understand correctly, you need multiple desktops each with its own, indepedent configuration. In my opinion having more users is better for you than sharing a single user account across more desktops.

Thank you for the reply.  That makes sense.

I agree that having more users is better solution, but in my situation, I need multiple desktops each with its own, independent configuration.

Do you have any documentation as how to configure this?

Unfortunately, nobody has ever asked us for this, so I haven’t more useful suggestions for you.
Have you tried the Gnome mailing lists? They might have some suggestions.
