    Hi everyone,

I am facing some issue with connecting to my NoMachine server. I’ve set up everything according to the guide but when I try to connect, I keep getting an “Authentication Failed” error. I’ve double checked the username and password and they’re correct…

I am running NoMachine version 8.1.3 on both the client and server. The server is on a Windows system and the client is on a Linux system. Both are on the same local network. I’ve tried restarting both systems and re-installing NoMachine but the issue persists.

Is there anyone else who experienced this ? Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. I also went through this thread: https://forum.nomachine.com/topic/cannot-connect-to-remote-linux-server-flutter-running-nomachine but couldn’t get helpful information.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Mitchell,

can you tell us what version of the Windows OS is installed on the server side?

To access any desktop via NoMachine you need a system account on that computer. You can use the local username assigned to your account on the Windows machine. To check the local username, just go into your C: drive, select Users and check what your local username is. Are you sure you are using the right password? If there is Win 11 on that machine, don’t use the PIN that Windows 11 asks you when unlocking the screen.

Some more tips about acceptable usernames and formats are available in the knowledge base article here:

If that doesn’t help, please send us logs from the both sides. You can do this by following the instructions here: https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243. You can zip them up and send to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.
