    Hi everyone,

I’ve been using NoMachine on Windows 10 to access my work computer remotely, and overall, it’s been a great tool. However, I’ve been running into some issues with screen resolution and scaling, and I was hoping someone here might have some advice.

The problem is that my work machine has a 4K display, but the laptop I’m connecting from only supports 1080p. When I connect, the remote desktop appears either too small to read or stretched awkwardly, depending on how I configure the display settings in NoMachine.

I’ve tried adjusting the scaling options under Display Settings in NoMachine, but I can’t seem to find a configuration that feels natural. Here are my questions:

    1. Is there a way to dynamically adjust the resolution or scaling so the remote desktop fits my laptop screen properly without being blurry?
    2. Would setting a custom resolution on the remote machine specifically for NoMachine connections help? If so, how can I do that?
    3. Are there any known best practices for working with mixed-resolution setups like this?

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer—I’d really appreciate it!

    Cheers,

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

It sounds like you’re encountering a common challenge when working with mixed-resolution setups. NoMachine provides several options for configuring how the remote desktop is displayed, allowing you to adjust the resolution and scaling to best suit your setup.

I recommend checking out this guide: https://www.nomachine.com/configuring-how-you-view-the-remote-desktop. It explains how to experiment with different view modes, including scaling and resolution options, to find the one that works best for your 1080p laptop and 4K work machine.

Here are a few tips to consider while experimenting:

Use the “Fit to Window” mode to ensure the remote desktop adjusts dynamically to your local screen.

Try the “Resize remote display” option, which resizes the remote desktop to match your laptop’s resolution.

If you prefer setting a custom resolution for your NoMachine session, you can do so in the Display Settings on your remote machine or via the NoMachine session settings.

    Cheers
