ParticipantAfter installing Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS on a new MSI D3052 with an nVidia GPU (3050) in the x4 PCIE slot I get some strange rendering issues. Both are running 8.16.1 and I have had no such problems in the past with my laptops (Windows 7, 8, and 10) and other Linux boxes (Ubuntu going back to 14.04 LTS).
Monitor connected to DP and hardware acceleration on: Screen is mostly black, but I can see some text and window borders fade in over a minute.
Monitor connected to DP and hardware acceleration off: Screen is split with the left side black and the right side a compressed desktop. Moving the cursor around via the remote connection shows proper mouse movement, click selection, and keyboard input, but the attached monitor and the remote display do not match up at all.
Monitor connected to HDMI and hardware acceleration off: Screen is black and I see a tiny cursor that appears to move properly
Any thoughts on what is causing that and what to try other than hardware acceleration off?

KeymasterHi, did you also try disabling HW decoding on the Player side? That means editing the following key in the player.cfg file
option key="Enable hardware accelerated decoding" value="disabled"
(see https://kb.nomachine.com/AR07U01202). It’s important to exit the player first and re-open after editing before trying to connect again. If that didn’t help either, are you able to send us the full server-side and player-side logs so we can check them? Enable debug on the server side before reproducing the problem. Complete instructions on how to get both server and player logs are available here: https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243
Attach here or send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Please use the title of this topic as the subject of your email. Thanks!

ParticipantThank you so much @Britgirl! I found your post with a similar issue but somehow missed the instructions for disabling hardware accelerated decoding.
Making that change on my laptop (the Player) fixed the issue and I will mark it as solved.

KeymasterGood to know that resolved it!
I’d like to update my earlier response where I suggested to edit the player.cfg. My apologies for not suggesting it first. In your case, you could actually disable HW decoding on the fly for that session from the connection menu (the libraries are still loaded but are not used). Open the NoMachine menu panel inside the session by Ctrl+Alt+0 or click on the page peel at the top right corner of the window. Then click on Display -> Change settings. In that panel click on the Modify button to open the advanced display settings. Click on ‘Disable client side hardware decoding’ to disable it.
If possible, would you be able to send us the logs from the Player reproducing the error? It would mean reverting your edit to the cfg file.

Participant@Britgirl, thank you very much for the follow-up instructions. I reverted the Player.cfg file and tried the page peel to disable the client side hardware decoding, which also worked.
I sent client logs to the email you noted. The first file corresponds to hardware decoding being disabled initially and changing the settings to enable it once more. The second file re-opened the connection, now with hardware decoding enabled, and then disabled it.
