Is it possible to get UHD resolution for Win10 VM on Azure?
The Azure Win10 VM has 4GB video memory. More than enough for UHD resolution. When I use MS Remote Desktop Connection to the VM it gives me UHD resolution.
NoMachine does not even offer such an option (see the attached screenshot)Any help appreciated!

Followed the suggested solution in https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/screen-resolution-fixed-at-1024-1068 (link to Superuser.com in the last post) — adjusted the registry (
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
) for the screen resolution (in my case the KEY name was different from how it was described in the link — I did not have the key starting with “SIMULATED.....
” [PIC 1])
I found more details about these registry changes on MS forums. The problem — when I restarted the VM (to boot the VM with the new registry values), the registry was reverted to the old values (thanks, Azure). Other tricks (signing out/in) did not help either — the registry changes did not disappear, but they did not make any changes to the system. The max resolution remains @ 1920×1080 (PIC 2)
The VM has very old graphics driver (PIC 3). Perhaps that is partly the reason. Tried to find an update. No luck.
As I mentioned earlier, I get proper 3840×2160 in MS Remote Desktop.
I do not know what GPU does the server of my current VM has (was not specified in the description). Now I will try to set up a VM for GPU intensive processes. These are at least advertised as having proper GPUs. Hopefully they will have better support for and compatibility with NoMachine. But this would be just for testing purposes, because they are be too expensive for my needs.
So, my goal is to get my current VM working with NoMachine @ UHD resolution.

When connecting with NoMachine to the physical desktop, the maximum resolution you can get is the maximum resolution supported by the remote graphics card.

As you can see in the screenshots, it says the VM has 4GB video memory. Should be enough for NoMachine to run UHD, because MS says: “Every vGPU-enabled virtual desktop uses the GPU hardware video memory on the host server to render the desktop.” But probably these 4GB are not really 4GB. I do not have time to figure it out how this can be explained.
When I created another VM on Azure with higher specs (but still no real GPU in description), the VM said it had 16GB of video ram. But still no UHD with NoMachine.November 1, 2020 at 10:36 #30996BritgirlKeymasterUHD is not available to NoMachine because you’re connecting to the physical display with NoMachine and therefore depends on GPU capabilities. NoMachine doesn’t and cannot create a virtual Windows desktop which is what you get when you connect with RDP. NoMachine therefore supports the maximum resolution made available by the remote graphics card.
