I’m unable to connect from a Windows 7 client (4.5.0) to a Linux (AWS Amazon Linux) server (4.6.12), both free. Whenever I try, I see one of the following:

    – “The connection with the server was lost. Error is 106: Software caused connection abort.”
    – “Could not start the display server. Error is 5: Input/output error.”
    – “Could not connect to the server. Error is 108: Connection reset by peer.”
    – “The session negotiation failed. Error: Agent was not initialized properly”

There doesn’t seem to be a predictable pattern for when I get which error.

I’m using the NX protocol (not SSH) and the default port (4000).

The linux machine is headless, but I’ve installed Xvfb as the X server for it following instructions in a NoMachine KB article. That seems to work.

In the past I had version 3.5 of the server running on the same host and it worked well, except that I was seeing a strange issue with selecting text that was driving me crazy. Someone told me that upgrading the server will solve that, but I haven’t been able to connect since.

Could you send logs from server and client side to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com? There are instructions on how to collect them: https://www.nomachine.com/DT04M00076.

I suggest you try version 5. Improvements for headless server users were introduced.
