    I am running the free versions on Windows 10 client and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server, version 8.5.3 on both sides.

    My problem is that sharing USB devices of the client seems to work only if the Windows client also runs the server process.

    Stopping the server with “shut down the server” option on the Windows side turns the USB device list into empty on the Linux server.

    If the server is let running on Windows, everything works as should.

    I do not want to run the server on the client machine at all. It consumes ~200MB RAM for nothing, and adds risk to security. I only need the USB sharing to work.

    It is a known issue and the workaround is to use NoMachine Enterprise Client instead of the Free Edition on the computer you want to connect from. Please uninstall FE and install the following:
