Hello, I have a use case question

I have five HP machines running w10/1903, three in a studio and two at home, and a MacBookPro Laptop

I have been using TeamViewer, the yearly contract is up soon and I’m looking at options

All the workstations are HP z class machines, I just installed HP’s “remote graphics system” (RGS) software, and although impressive performance when compared to TeamViewer,  (and free if you have a qualified machine, all but my MBP are) it lacks a number of things I would prefer not to lose

– access is only by entering IP + the machine’s name + the machine’s password

– credentials have to be entered every time, seems it cannot store a  list of trusted machines

– there is no scaling options so the UI of a machine with a 1920×1200 DreamColor UI mon needs a lot of moving about on a 1440×900 laptop, only gets worse with a 4k mon…

I often have clients and assistants log on to a machine to complete tasks, using TeamViewer I can change password with one  click after they finish their session

useing RGS I would have to  re-set the machine’s password each time, this is a pain to be polite…

I’m looking at NoMachine to replace TeamViewer for the outside clients/assistants and my laptop, using one machine as a hub with a licence of  Enterprise Desktop Subscription, and then using RGS to connect between machines from there

now to the questions:

–  for example if the z800 is the hub, and it’s got a z820 connected via RGS, a trusted user could log on to the z800  via NoMachine, and control the z820’s as needed – does this seem a realistic use case? would one licence do for this use?

– can I re-set the password after each session easily/quickly?

– does the software offer a scaling option for the UI

I will download and test, should I – download the Enterprise Desktop for the z800, and then the free version for my laptop and to send to clients so they can access the z800?

– is there an advantage to having the free version installed on my z820’s/620/420 when they already have RGS up and running?

Yes, you don’t need more licenses.

NoMachine can use it’s own passwords DB to separate system and NoMachine access

It is easy to change NX password with just one nxserver command.

To use the NoMachine Password DB:

Edit /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg on the Enterprise Desktop host and set (remove

the pre-pending # from the key name):

EnablePasswordDB 1

Then set the NoMachine password for an existent system user:

sudo /etc/NX/nxserver –passwd USERNAME

You can use the same command above to change the NoMachine password for that user at any moment

Yes it does.

NoMachine Free is for private use; the article https://www.nomachine.com/AR03P00972 explains the difference between the private and the commercial use. If you have a professional use of the software, it requires therefore to adopt a licensed product.
