Hello NoMachine Community,
I have a need to pass a USB device through to a remote computer running a third party remote control software. The problem is, the software being used by the computer doesn’t support device passthrough, so I have installed NoMachine on it to enable me to do so. Unfortunately, I need to continue using the other software as the primary remote control software on that computer, so upgrading to NoMachine is not an option, so my plan was to run a NoMachine session in the background while using the other software at the same time. This works, but introduces additional overhead in terms of bandwidth and system resource usage. With that in mind, would it be possible for me to connect to the computer via NoMachine without connecting to the display so I can only pass through devices? Both the host and the guest are running Windows.

Connecting to the computer without connecting to the display is not possible. Perhaps consider using NoMachine for all your remote desktop needs rather than another software? That way you would also decrease the resource usage 🙂

That said, the NoMachine team should really consider implementing a feature that allows for connections to other machines that are only intended for device or network port sharing. I know that there are other tools on the market that can do these things, but NoMachine’s implementation of these features is still the best that I have seen, and having the flexibility to use them without needing to have a display connection as well would be awesome.

That’s good!

A type of lightweight session, or NoMachine is actually something we have evaluated and it’s something we are planning on doing. It would allow the Player to connect without having to connect to the physical desktop, then it could be possible to access certain functionalities made available within this session. It’s still in the design phase right now, but we will definitely consider your use case 🙂
