NM client is on MacOS.  Connecting to an Ubuntu Linux VM on another system on the same local network.

Copying and Pasting very short text strings is extremely slow.  When I mean short… like URL’s, Passwords, login names.

Basically when I go to paste the item in the remote host – it takes a good 10 to 20 seconds.  Slow enough that most times I’m not sure it’s going to work… sometimes so slow that the password input resets…

What could be wrong? Seems like there should be much better performance for such a trivial amount of text… [remove] is almost instantaneous.

We assume you are using the latest version 9. We have not been able to reproduce this. Please tell us the desktop environment you are connecting to on the Ubuntu VM. Does it happen when pasting to all Ubuntu applications or with specific ones (which ones)? Are you using NoMachine free edition both sides?

I am using the free version on both sides. I’m basically using it as a more reliable Remote Desktop solution than something like [removed] or [removed].

Client side is generally MacOS Sequoia on M2 Pro Max MBP.  I’m up to date with whatever latest distribution is, but that hasn’t really mattered.  Connecting to VMs in my home lab running atop of Proxmox PVE. VMs range from Ubuntu 24, Debian 12, or Kali Linux 2025.2. I’ve updated the NoMachine client in the VMs on each to whatever the current latest version is.

Regardless of the version, there is a long delay for copy and paste.  The app being pasted into doesn’t seem to matter – at least I’ve not found it to be inconsistent. I will note that the reverse copy from the VM doesn’t seem to have the same performance issue. It’s noticeably delayed, but never long enough to think the copy didn’t happen.

Happy to provide whatever diagnostic info that’s needed.

Can you send us the full set of logs? From the Ubuntu server machine and also the Mac device you are connecting from.

Please follow sections 1 and 2 from this document, https://kb.nomachine.com/DT08U00298. Set the log level to 7. You can submit them as two attachments if they are not too big, or you can send them directly to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.
