    Hello folks. I’m experiencing a very blocking problem related to keyboard mapping.

    I have 2 boxes, one running Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) and the other Windows 8.1, and I need to connect from the “linux” to the “windows” box using NX.

    Now, my problem is: as soon as the NX session is closed, the keyboard mapping on “windows” gets irremediably broken.

    By broken, I mean that typing “j”, “k”, “l” produces “1”, “2” and “3” respectively (other keys are broken too).

    And by irremediably, I mean that the change is persistent and I couldn’t find a way to cancel it, which makes the account on the “windows” machine impossible to use any longer.

    How can I prevent this problem to arise ? How can I fix the broken keymap layout on the “windows” account ?

    Thanks very much in advance !

    Hello.

    I guess the Windows box has a keyboard with numpad embedded in the alphabetical keypad and that NumLock was activated. In such situations some letters are mapped onto numbers, typically:

    • M -> 0
    • J,K,L -> 1,2,3
    • U,I,O -> 4,5,6

    Turning off NumLock should help.
