Both Linux server and Windows player are running free version 8.13.1.
I can connect but immediately disconnect with the message:
The connection with the server was lost. Error is 108: Connection reset by peer.
I am trying to connect to a physical display.
I have observed the same behavior using players on both Windows 10 and 11. The Linux side desktop is GNOME.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled NoMachine using the command line DEB instructions found here at section 2.6:
https://kb.nomachine.com/DT10R00166
to no avail.

September 4, 2024 at 15:16 #49541BritgirlKeymasterHi, try disabling hardware decoding in the player. You can do that by setting the appropriate key in the player.cfg file. Instructions are available here:
https://kb.nomachine.com/AR07U01202
You need to set the key to <option key=”Enable hardware accelerated decoding” value=”disabled” /> to completely disable, making sure to quit the player first (from the tray) before then starting a new session.
Does the session still disconnect?
Please send us the client-side logs (the device you are connecting from). You can gather them using the instructions in the following document https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243, specifically paragraph “Fourth Step: Collect Client Side Logs“.
September 5, 2024 at 02:56 #49548psantuccParticipantThanks for following up!
Logs are attached. The archive was too big so I removed many sub-directories named for the host to which I was connecting and a long random string. These may be the “recording sub-directories” mentioned in the KB article, but I can’t find a definition for that term, so please let me know if you need more. I did keep some of these, including every one since the problem starred on 1 September and several just before.
Disabling hardware decoding did not affect the symptoms.

September 5, 2024 at 16:03 #49556BritgirlKeymasterThanks for those. It would be useful to also see the submit server-side logs to complete the investigation? You can extract them using the instructions here: https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243. You can upload them here or send them directly to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.

September 6, 2024 at 15:00 #49566BritgirlKeymasterHi, send that file to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Maximum file size is 1024 KB.
September 6, 2024 at 16:22 #49568psantuccParticipantSent.
September 11, 2024 at 17:21 #49623BritgirlKeymasterThanks for submitting those and we can see there are many attempts to connect. The problem appears to be in the nx daemon, but the logs you sent didn’t include the daemon logs. If possible, please restart nxserver, reproduce the issue and send a new set of logs.
September 12, 2024 at 04:09 #49629psantuccParticipantNew logs sent, but the symptom has changed – progress of a sort.
After an Ubuntu update and consequent mandatory restart of the server, I cannot reproduce the symptom. I now stay connected, and use the client side mouse and keyboard to control the server machine. I set up a physical display attached to the server DisplayPort where I can see it from the room with the client, and see the mouse move and letters when I type on the physical display – but the client window is black.
September 12, 2024 at 09:01 #49630AltenalsonParticipantI had the same issue and solved it by uninstalling and re-installing for both server and client. Might be overkill, but now it works.
September 14, 2024 at 08:45 #49668robert.tianParticipant<option key=”Enable hardware accelerated decoding” value=”false” />
works in my environment, thanks!
September 15, 2024 at 01:32 #49672psantuccParticipantNo change after uninstalling and reinstalling both client and server. I can still connect and control but can’t see the remote desktop
September 15, 2024 at 15:24 #49673psantuccParticipantA question for the mods: should I start a new topic since the symptoms are now so different?
September 17, 2024 at 02:19 #49706psantuccParticipant<option key=”Enable hardware accelerated decoding” value=”false” /> did not work for me, same for “disabled” previously attempted.
