I have nxserver set up to “Start the server at system startup,” and it does, I can see the process.

But I try to connect from the client and it can’t connect.

Then on the server, in the gui, “Server settings,” “Status,” I observe “Server status” shows green for “server running.”

Then I click Ports. Initially the far right column Status shows Running (green) but after a few seconds it turns gray.

I go back to Status and click “Restart the server,” which requires my password, but then it works and the server restarts.

After that, I can connect from the client.

I have to do this every time the machine the server is on is rebooted.

Any idea what’s going on, and how to correct it?

I don’t think it’s a client version problem since I can connect after the above process, but I’ll add some info anyway.

It looks like you have “start the server at system startup” disabled. Did you install NoMachine from the AUR repository? If so, take a look at my answer to this topic dealing with the same problem: https://forum.nomachine.com/topic/nxd-does-not-start-from-systemd-but-does-from-nxserver-restart-2#post-46344.

    Figured it out.

I was not previously aware two settings were required.

First, “Start the server at system startup”, which I had, and could see the process started on boot as expected.

But second, on the Ports tab, the port can be either “Manual” or “Automatic.” Mine was “Manual.” I changed it to “Automatic,” rebooted, and now I can connect from the client without additional actions.
