The problem with doing this is, I need the USB Passthrough.

The webcam is external and attached through USB. It is a Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe.

I still believe the issue is related to NoMachine, however, I have now encountered the freezing issue even when I don’t use the USB passthrough for the webcam. It only happens when remoting in to this one specific machine. When I use NoMachine to access any other machines, it does not happen. Or at least, I have not seen it happen so far. The only thing I can think of that is different about this machine compared to others is that it has multiple monitors attached to it, and I have the display stretched across multiple monitors as well to accommodate it.

That is really great to hear! I love seeing all of the exciting things that the team has planned for NoMachine 8. Keep up the awesome work! I hope NoMachine 8 will be out soon! 😁

Unfortunately, totally migrating this particular machine to NoMachine is out of the question, but it looks like I can at least use NoMachine exclusively for my connectivity to it, so the problem is effectively solved.

That said, the NoMachine team should really consider implementing a feature that allows for connections to other machines that are only intended for device or network port sharing. I know that there are other tools on the market that can do these things, but NoMachine’s implementation of these features is still the best that I have seen, and having the flexibility to use them without needing to have a display connection as well would be awesome.

Thank you! I will try it and report back on whether it works or not.

I tried following the instructions posted here, but it looks like the three kext files that are referenced in that post are not present under the /Library/Application Support/NoMachine/Extensions directory.

As requested, here is the output from the terminal, however, I should note that I didn’t have any local or remote devices get loaded.

    Davids-Mac:~ david$ sudo kextstat | grep nx
    Password:
    Executing: /usr/bin/kmutil showloaded
No variant specified, falling back to release

Also, will this provide useful information for resolving the other issue that I am having with the screen resolution as well?

I have checked if the extensions are enabled on my macOS machine, and they are, but it seems that USB devices are still not working. Additionally, I have another annoying problem with the macOS VM that I have been unable to fix: since installing NoMachine, the VM is stuck in a display resolution of 1024 x 768 instead of dynamically resizing as controlled by VMware Tools like it used to. What can I do about that?

The good news it, my Raspberry Pi is working now! As explained in the knowledgebase article you linked to, I did not have the kernel headers installed. After installing them, compiling the driver manually, and restarting the NoMachine service, USB devices began working properly.

I’m not sure what happened, but it seems that USB devices are working again on my Windows host as well as all my Windows VMs. They are still not working on my macOS VM nor my Raspberry Pis however.

I do not use any of the applications that are listed on that page, so I have gone with the last option: share the log files. I’ve attached them in a zip file.

All of my VMs use NoMachine 7.6.2. The virtual machines that I am trying to access include a Windows machine, an Ubuntu machine, and a macOS machine. I’ve not tried connecting out from one of those machines, but trying to connect in from my aforementioned Windows host does not show any USB devices.

@Carin Would you be willing to share the script? I also want to connect USB devices to a macOS VM.

    Hello Britgirl,

The plans for NoMachine Network are excellent news! I do have one question about it though: I noticed that the feature request dates back to 2012. Is there any information as to when it will become available? It is definitely not my intention to sound impatient or rude (I am a programmer and understand that these things take a while), but I am curious.

Regarding the link about how to connect when the server is behind a NAT router or firewall, these instructions are unfortunately not applicable to the problem I am trying to solve here. For the time being, I will continue to use TeamViewer for laptops and will move them to NoMachine once NoMachine Network becomes available.
