Hi
Which desktop environment are you using? The error mentioned above may indicate that command for start desktop is incorrect. You should edit
/usr/NX/etc/node.cfg
as root and changeDefaultDesktopCommand
(uncomment if commented) value to – for example “/usr/bin/mate-session” if you have MATE installed.More information how to run specific desktop environment you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/AR04K00667.
kroyContributorThanks for the report!
We were able to reproduce problem. Please follow this trouble report: https://www.nomachine.com/TR11P08971 and use the notify me tool to know when a fix is available.
kroyContributorJust forward port 3306 as per these instructions: “Connect a Custom Network Port” https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00158#4.4.1.
However, forwarding network Port from Windows to Mac may not work correctly. It’s a known issue. Please use the workaround from following the Trouble Report: https://www.nomachine.com/TR10P08940 and use the ‘notify me’ tool to know when a fix is available.
kroyContributorTo open Menu settings inside the session execute Alt+Ctrl+0 shortcut or navigate to top-right corner of the window and click on the page-peel (https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00156#2.1).
The NoMachine version you can find in the “Updates” section in the NoMachine Player preferences GUI (if this is NoMachine Enterprise Client version) or in the Server preferences GUI (for other products). You can also execute command
/usr/NX/bin/nxplayer --version
in the terminal.kroyContributorCan you send server (
%PROGRAMDATA%/NoMachine/var/log
) and client logs (%USERPROFILE%\.nx
) from server side to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com? Instructions about collecting logs you can find here: https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00163kroyContributorCan you describe in detail exactly how you share the internet connection for the wrongly working machine?
Is this Access Point connected to the same router as the first machine? Maybe you could share internet from first machine?
kroyContributorAre you sure that you wrote correct username and the password? You need to use the credentials for your account on the remote computer. More information how to start using NoMachine you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/getting-started-with-nomachine
You can also disable request for the desktop owner’s authorization on the server: https://www.nomachine.com/AR04K00663
kroyContributorCan you describe more your problem? Do you have access to the host via NoMachine? Maybe you don’t have password on a new created user? Remote login to Windows with empty password is forbidden by Windows policies:
kroyContributorWe haven’t experienced such problems. Can you paste here more information about your audio on both machines? Just open your sound panel with
Win+R
key sequence and followcontrol mmsys.cpl
. Make a screenshot on Playback panels and “General” section on speakers Properties window. All pictures please paste or attach here.kroyContributorWe are pleased that we could help. The problem was caused by the system update.
kroyContributorHi
Please try to run session with dbus command. Edit as root /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg file, uncomment (if it’s commented) and modify DefaultDesktopCommand key.
The entire line should look like this:
DefaultDesktopCommand "/usr/bin/dbus-launch /usr/bin/startxfce4"
kroyContributorHi.
Did you try connecting there over the internet? If you forwarded port 29734 you should be able to connect to your Windows Server 2012 by using the Public IP (you can find Public IP on that machine for example on https://www.whatismyip.com) and Port 29734.
More information about using NoMachine for remote access to a computer over the internet you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/getting-started-with-nomachine.
kroyContributorCan you try tracert to some www address to verify if there are two private networks on the route? If yes, NoMachine has to go through both. UPnP doesn’t easily support this type of scenario. If you are able to configure that network, port forwarding should be set up on both.
If you prefer send us the output of
tracert <any_www_page>
and we can check for you.September 24, 2018 at 08:40 in reply to: No external IP address on Fedora 28; present on Win10 #19697kroyContributorAre you sure that you executed correct commands or “upnpstatusx” is maybe a typo inside the post?
In attached logs there is no debug. To enable it:
Edit /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg, uncomment and set the following:
SessionLogLevel 7
Edit /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg, uncomment and set the following:
SessionLogLevel 7
Restart server:
sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver --restart
. After that execute:sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver --upnpmap
and archive logs:sudo tar cvfz NoMachine-log.tar.gz /usr/NX/var/log
.Logs from windows would be very helpful.
To enable it – run notepad as an administrator open server.cfg file (which is in the InstallationDirectory/NoMachine/etc) and uncomment and set the following:
SessionLogLevel 7
Repeat the operation for node.cfg. Then run cmd as administrator -> navigate to InstallationDirectory/NoMachine/bin -> execute commands
nxserver --restart
-> andnxserver --upnpstatus
Then create a compressed archive of the NoMachine’s /var/log directory.
The NoMachine /var/log directory is: %PROGRAMDATA%/NoMachine/var/log
To compress it, right-click the file or folder, point to Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder.
kroyContributor1. Can I set up the host software to start automatically without intervention so I can reboot the machine remotely and connect again?
NoMachine services will start up again by default at reboot of the remote host. If you don’t want to that to occur you can configure it in the Service Status section (!M icon in system tray -> Show the service status -> Shutdown the server -> Continue -> Do you want to automatically start the server at the next reboot?” -> Yes.
2. I might or might not have a static IP address on the host machine. If not, will that make the way I connect less secure?
By default, NoMachine works out-of-the-box on your local network. To access over the Internet, you’ll need to forward ports on your router or use a VPN. If you don’t set a static IP you’ll have to change your port forwarding configuration every time when your IP changes. In the future, we’ll be adding a feature that will avoid having to do this. (https://www.nomachine.com/FR07J02731)
3. I’ll be connecting to a host laptop with a 15″ screen from a client with a 20″ monitor. Can I display more on the client display than what would be on the host’s display? (Or will it just be like a blown up version of the host screen?)
Possible resolutions depend on the video capabilities of the remote computer, so you cannot display more on the client than what would be on the remote display.

https://www.nomachine.com/changing-how-you-view-the-remote-hostWould I even be able to use a dual-display remotely with 2 screens?
Yes, more about multiple monitors you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/switching-the-view-between-multi-monitors-during-a-remote-desktop-session
4. Is there anyway to turn off the host display while I’m working?
Yes, please refer to: https://www.nomachine.com/protecting-the-host-screen-during-a-remote-control-session
5. Is it stable?
NoMachine goes through rigorous quality assurance processes. And I might add that we are the solution of choice in a high number of well-known organizations 😉 If you want more information about our customers and our QA, feel free to contact us via the website (Contact Us in the footer).
