MickMParticipant
Did you not read my earlier post (28514) from over a month ago where I (hopefully) narrowed the issue down so something completely separate to Cadence, using just the plain old nedit text editor? I was super hopeful this would crack the case open, and have been eagerly waiting for a response ever since. However, after all that time you now make no mention of that – citing only Cadence related things. Indeed, all of the earlier video material I forwarded didn’t even involve Cadence, but only the SOS revision control software instead. So I’m obviously disappointed, could somebody please just try the simple nedit method to reproduce what I saw and report back.
MickMParticipantStill suffering a slow and steady death with this bug (first reported almost a year ago). Any updates? You simply can’t imagine my frustration after all this time. If there are any beta test versions at all for a fix I’ll try it! If anybody out there knows of an alternate product that allows XWindows to be individually displayed on a Mac screen I’d be immensely appreciative if you could let me know.
MickMParticipantIt’s been a couple weeks so I thought I’d ask if there’s been any progress.
MickMParticipantFor the stuff I’ve been showing recently in the videos I don’t think you’d need Cadence (it would also take me a while to sort out a test case for you). For now just do something simple like open a very big text text file using a text editor (I just tried it with nedit on a 300kB postscript file) and it shows the behavior i.e. drag the “slider” in the scrollbar on the right into the middle of the document. You likely should even see the issue if you do this quickly. Now with your Magic Mouse do the rapid swipe (one or more swipes ought to do it). I’m hopeful that if you fix that it’ll somehow translate into being fixed for the other work I’m doing in Cadence.
MickMParticipantI did try the virtual desktop and do not see the problem at all.
MickMParticipantI just tried that – took me a while to figure everything out. Was this a server side or client side instruction? Where is node.cfg located? Anyway, assuming it was a client side thing, I tried it on my Mac after finally finding the file in:
/Applications/NoMachine.app/Contents/Frameworks/etc
I edited the file as below:
#DisplayServerExtraOptions “-nocomposite -noshpix”
DisplayServerExtraOptions “-defercore”
but nothing changed. I then had our CAD guy edit the server side file on the linux (actually Centos) machine in the same way and then I did see a difference. It did display the same constantly redrawing bug when I swipe fast on the Magic Mouse as in the video, only this time many of the redraws were implemented as screen over-writes (see attached picture). So I’d have to say things got worse because of the added poor visual effects. I also tried it with the node.cfg file back to normal on the Mac while the edits were still in effect on the server and experienced the same overwriting visual effects. So in summary, changes were only noticed when the server side file was edited. I forgot to check it with a virtual desktop and when I remembered the CAD guy had already left. That being said, if I have to view the remote desktop instead of the individual windows then I immediately jump to VNC where I’ve never had any problems. The *only* reason I use NoMachine is because of the capability of displaying individual remote windows back onto my Mac.

MickMParticipantPlease can I have this fix! This issue is just killing me.
MickMParticipant6.11.2
MickMParticipantCan you please confirm if you have my email address, otherwise I will post it here (unless you provide an address so I can email you instead).
MickMParticipantYes please – I’m desperate for this to be fixed.
MickMParticipantI have been using a regular mouse for a few days and the problem is still there (although less noticeable for some situations). I use Cadence IC layout software which is very graphics intensive. Even using a regular mouse I see a really annoying lag in just drawing a pencil thin selection rectangle around some graphics. It gets worse trying to move the subsequently selected graphics items (sometimes I wait a full second or two waiting for the graphics on the screen to catch up with where I left my mouse after a drag operation – it’s awful). I’m not really sure blaming OS X is the right thing here. As computers get better at making graphics manipulation silky smooth you’re just going to see faster screen refresh rates one way or the other. Maybe OS X is pushing that boundary earlier than others, but I reckon it is something you’ll need to keep up with.
MickMParticipantSigh – this behavior is killing me. I sent in a video 3 weeks ago and haven’t heard a word since. Lately these forums (at least on the Mac side) have been unattended.
MickMParticipantAny update on this? It’s a pain dealing with this behavior.
MickMParticipantI had sent a link to a video of the expose issue in a separate email to you a week ago and haven’t heard anything back. I continue to be suspicious that this is all connected to NoMachine possibly disconnecting and then reconnecting by itself, with a residual side effect that the Expose window images are subsequently lost. I asked the guy who installed the patched version onto the linux box if there were any NoMachine disconnection logs I could forward to you, but he wasn’t sure where to look…
MickMParticipantI had sent a link to a video of the issue in a separate email to you a week ago and haven’t heard anything back. Did you get the video? In that email I also mentioned that your suggestion didn’t work, so I’m still stuck…
