Figured it out.

I was not previously aware two settings were required.

First, “Start the server at system startup”, which I had, and could see the process started on boot as expected.

But second, on the Ports tab, the port can be either “Manual” or “Automatic.” Mine was “Manual.” I changed it to “Automatic,” rebooted, and now I can connect from the client without additional actions.
