January 22, 2019 at 17:16 in reply to: How to improve performance of NoMachine when it is used through Windows Remote Desktop #21119
Britgirl
KeymasterHi, just for clarity: Windows ‘A’ (don’t know the version), Windows 7 (‘B’ ) and RedHat computer we’ll call ‘C’.
Am I right in assuming that when you connect from B to C the performance is fast, i.e they are the same hosts you mention in Set-up 1?
If so, that would mean that the problem is WRD, not NoMachine. A possible assumption about any slowness being caused by WRD could possibly be because it intercepts primitive graphics and not images in order to draw the content of Windows applications (?) Nxplayer draws the remote desktop as images which Windows Remote Desktop Protocol can’t compress optimally.
Out of curiosity, what happens if you connect from A to B with NoMachine and run NoMachine from within your NX connection?
Britgirl
KeymasterIt looks like a firewall problem. You need to open all ports which could be required by the WebRTC connection. So open traffic for all ports for your specific IP from which you are connecting.
To configure it please edit Security Group rules in the AWS configuration (see section “Configuring the security group” in https://www.nomachine.com/accessing-your-remote-linux-desktop-on-amazon-elastic-compute-cloud-via-NoMachine).

KeymasterThe logs didn’t attach, most likely because they were too big. Please send them to forum_at_nomachine_com making sure to reference your topic. Thanks!
Britgirl
KeymasterWhat’s important is that they are the logs with debug library we prepared for you 🙂
Britgirl
KeymasterYes, please make reference to your topic either in the subject or body, so we know who they are from. Thanks!
Britgirl
KeymasterPlease check if an X process is running. You can do that by executing
ps -ef | grep X
.Send us /var/log/Xorg.0.log if present.
Send us the server side logs (possibly with debug level enabled). To do that you need to follow the instructions here: https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00163
You can submit all your attachments to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.
Britgirl
KeymasterWe’re still unable to reproduce the problem. If we send you a debug library with further instructions, would you be able to resubmit some new logs? This would allow us to get more debug information.

KeymasterThe VM has a NVIDIA GM200GL Quadro set as PCI Passthrough.
Will i need to enable H.264?
if the card is properly visible to the guest system in the VM, nvenc should at least try to initialize, and will then be visible to NoMachine automatically.
I assume i then need NoMachine_6.4.6_5 for my Win10 PC to access the Linux VM?
As I mentioned earlier, you can either install NoMachine, the free package NoMachine or Enterprise Client on the connecting client.

KeymasterHi Dave, please follow these instructions:
How to disable or uninstall NoMachine USB drivers on Windows

KeymasterDo you mean file transfer or copy and paste? They are two different things 🙂
Copy and paste works out of the box, both ways.
Files can also be copied using drag and drop. When using this method, they are dropped on to the ‘other desktop’.
For file transfer see here: https://www.nomachine.com/sharing-files-between-computers
If you want to access files by being able to browse disks from the ‘other computer’, please see: https://www.nomachine.com/accessing-files-on-local-or-remote-disk-drives
Britgirl
KeymasterHi Alex, can you check your email inbox? I’ve just sent you the verbose version for debugging with instructions. Thanks!
Britgirl
KeymasterHi, we are not able to reproduce this issue. We’d need to see the logs from the Windows computer if possible. Can you send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Instructions on how to find them are here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00697
Britgirl
KeymasterHi, on your Linux VM it depends what you want from NoMachine 🙂 You can install either the free version or Enterprise Desktop (compare here: https://www.nomachine.com/remote-access-for-your-needs), either of these allow access to the physical display and support HW encoding.
To access the host where you’ve installed any of these mentioned above, you need to install either NoMachine, the free package, as it also includes what you need to be able to connect; or you can install Enterprise Client. More about this is here: https://www.nomachine.com/product&p=NoMachine%20Enterprise%20Client.
Further information about H.264 hardware encoding is available here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00706

Keymasterit would be nice if the iPhone can be used as an external trackpad.
Nice idea. Maybe we can open a Feature Request 😉
Britgirl
Keymaster🙂 thanks for showing us your appreciation. Our developers added significant performance improvements for high bandwidth networks, specifically in the adaptive frame rate algorithms – you can see the list of implementations here: https://www.nomachine.com/SU10P00200.
