If it’s the second case, we’ll need to see the logs: https://www.nomachine.com/AR07K00677
Follow the instructions in the document for your version linked in the article above. You can submit any attachments here or if they are too big, they should be sent to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.
BritgirlKeymasterWe are aware of issues when the GUI is not showing the the correct information which is documented here: https://www.nomachine.com/TR12N07384 and these will be fixed in an upcoming maintenance.
Can you tell verify whether this is the problem you are experiencing i.e the port shown in the GUI is not the port that is meant to be mapped?
Or is the problem that the port is opened sometimes, then other times it’s not open? If that’s the case, does it happen on both Windows and Debian? Or just Windows?
February 21, 2018 at 10:46 in reply to: Regression between versions of NoMachine v6 – much less responsive? #17608BritgirlKeymasterHi, we are not aware of any performance regression on version 6. It’s strange because many of our customers have reported that they have seen improvements in a number of areas.
Since this seems to be affecting your specific set-up, what I suggest you do is enable logs for the two different scenarios and connect to the remote host. You should connect from v6 to v5 which is not experiencing lag in your set-up and extract the logs. Then update to version 6. You should replicate the lag when connecting from v6 to v6, and grab the logs.
Send both to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com making sure you reference your topic.
Instructions for enabling logs are here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR07K00677
BritgirlKeymaster@Danslak, just to confirm that the TR which we opened thanks to your other forum post is in the queue – a solution should be made available in 6.1. (http://nomachine.com/TR11O08235)
BritgirlKeymasterWe’d need to see the logs to be able to understand whether the drops are network related or a possible bug in NoMachine. Please see the following article for both server and client sides and send them to forum[at]nomachine.com:
February 19, 2018 at 15:30 in reply to: Could not connect to the server. Error is 11001: Host not found #17574BritgirlKeymaster2) Is there a way to reboot from a distance?
Reboot what? The router or NoMachine? Also you wrote ‘2’, but I don’t see a point 1) – is that just a typo or is some text missing from your reply?
I just found the solution.
So is NoMachine working for you? Did you check our article in the searchable KB about port-forwarding? https://www.nomachine.com/AR11L00827
February 19, 2018 at 15:26 in reply to: How does NoMachine get the router to port forward automatically? #17573BritgirlKeymasterHave you followed the guidelines here? https://www.nomachine.com/AR11L00827
BritgirlKeymasterHi 🙂
Your Gmail domain is blocking emails from forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. I just tried to send you the test tool again, but to no avail. I have attached it here, please let me know when you’ve downloaded it, so I can remove it.
February 16, 2018 at 16:53 in reply to: Could not connect to the server. Error is 11001: Host not found #17542BritgirlKeymasterI forgot to add that if you prefer, you can send us a screenshot of what you see to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com that way you are not publishing any sensitive information.
February 16, 2018 at 16:50 in reply to: Could not connect to the server. Error is 11001: Host not found #17541BritgirlKeymasterNow, if I can’t get that type of connection working between 2 machines 5 miles apart, how can I get them working with an enterprise account?
Also, I find it aggravating using the other type of desktop connections, because I help a lot of friends over those connections and then they want me to buy a licence at a price I really can’t afford because I am not a company.
I didn’t say that Enterprise Desktop would make those problems go away. I was simply highlighting that as well as the free product, there is also a paid-for edition with more connections. But never mind 😉
You and your friends can continue to use the free NoMachine product. But first we need to understand how to get you connected to the remote computer. Presuming you are trying to connect to your friend’s PC, to connect to it, they will need to tell you their IP address, and if they want to connect to your computer, they will need to know your IP address.
NoMachine retrieves the public IP and maps the port automatically when the router supports UPnP or NAT-PMP port mapping. In some cases, however, the automatic port mapping is not possible. It will then be necessary to configure the router manually via its administrative interface.
To know what to use to connect to your PC, on your computer where you installed NoMachine, click on the !M icon (the NoMachine Monitor) which is visible in the computer’s system tray. Click on ‘Show the service status’. Do you see two IP addresses?
It would also help to know a little more about your networking environment. For example, is the internet connection made via a USB dongle or what some call ‘Mobile internet’ (via a cell network)? A PC with USB dongle gets a private non-routable IP which is assigned by your ISP to a public IP, and ISP routers don’t permit UPnP operations (which is what NoMachine currently needs in order to open the port on the router and detect the public IP.) NoMachine Network will solve this.
February 16, 2018 at 09:44 in reply to: Could not connect to the server. Error is 11001: Host not found #17521BritgirlKeymasterI installed latest free version on another machine at a friend’s place to test internet connections
So you want to connect to your friend’s computer? To do that you need to know its IP address as explained in the guide. Can your friend tell you it? Did you/he follow the instructions in the Getting Started Guide for connecting over the Internet? To access your home or office computer over the internet, jump to the instructions here.
From the screenshot the IP you are connecting is an IP address for LAN – local network. The public IP address usually will usually be a longer number. (see image below, taken from the Guide I just mentioned) You will need account credentials on that computer to be able to access it.
It should be simple to connect between 2 computers over the net?
You’re right. And you’ll be happy to know that we will be releasing the Network functionality which will avoid you having to know the IP address or hostname of the remote computer. So watch out for this.
NoMachine Network (previously labelled ‘Anywhere’) – https://www.nomachine.com/FR07J02731
It will be free, and it will most certainly make it easier for users, like yourself, who want to replace other alternatives – either because they aren’t completely free, are slow, have pop-ups or are missing some features – with a product that will be free, feature-rich and unbeatable performance.
NoMachine already offers some fantastic features which you’ve probably seen here: https://www.nomachine.com/nomachine-features. For those who prefer tech assistance directly from our support team or unlimited connections to the physical desktop (that way your friends can all connect to the same desktop at the same time :-)) Enterprise Desktop offers great value: https://www.nomachine.com/product&p=NoMachine%20Enterprise%20Desktop
Let us know if you continue to have issues.
BritgirlKeymasterUPDATE: the behaviour is expected, thus the TR has been closed. In its place a Feature Request has been opened:Â https://www.nomachine.com/FR03N03087
February 12, 2018 at 18:34 in reply to: Can add Ubuntu 17.10, 18.04 to list of supported OS for Linux server #17482BritgirlKeymasterThanks for the feedback 🙂
Whilst Wayland is the default display server in 17.10, NoMachine cannot work out-of-the-box unless users disable Wayland. Hence we’ve not added it yet to our list. When 18.04 is out of beta (April time?), it’ll go through the the usual QA before we can add it to the list of supported versions. That’s generally a period of 30 days. Please see the following article for more details:
NoMachine policies to support pre-release/new versions of operating systems
https://www.nomachine.com/AR03E00450BritgirlKeymasterJust so users know how to disable Wayland, it’s written in the link I pasted above.
“Until NoMachine implements support for Wayland protocol users are advised to disable Wayland in gdm configuration by adding the following key in /etc/gdm/custom.conf:
WaylandEnable=false”
BritgirlKeymasterTry the Workstation for Linux. The Terminal Server range (for Linux) provides an individual workspace, what we call virtual desktop. Workstation offers up to 4 virtual desktops. Compare the products here:Â https://www.nomachine.com/comparison-terminal-server-products.
Installing NoMachine (free) or the Enterprise Desktop will give you access to the physical display on the computer you are connecting to. More reading about the differences between the products and virtual vs physical are available here:
