Hi cameronpoe01,
“when I try to log in, and it prompts me for a username and password” – Please see if these instructions help, on your computer:
1. Launch the NoMachine User Interface from Programs menu or Applications and right click on a connection. Choose ‘Edit connection’ to access connection settings.
2. Be sure that NX is the selected protocol in the drop-down menu.
3. Go to the Configuration panel and choose ‘Use key-based authentication with a key you provide’, click on Modify.
4. Select the private key
5. Back to the previous panel and click on Connect
The client will prompt you for username and passphrase. If the key has no passphrase, the client will only ask for the username (there is no passphrase input field).
If you followed these instructions and the problem persists, it can be that it is caused by the option ‘Import the private key to the connection file’ that is checked in the client UI.
As a workaround, please uncheck the option ‘Import the private key to the connection file’ in the UI. Selecting that option is necessary only if you need to move the connection file to a different place and you need to carry on also the private key. Oherwise it’s not necessary to select it.
Please let us know if the issue is solved !
Best Wishes,
BilbotineParticipantHello Steve,
It looks like the issue is related to your system/authentication configuration.
NoMachine is based on its own PAM configuration, and if you let us know how your configured your system, we can understand better what is wrong.
Can you also tell us if you are able to authenticate using SSH ?
BilbotineParticipantHello Steve92,
Q1 – no, a running X server is not needed if that ECS machine is only a gateway.
Q2 – can you send us the logs (server side) so we can investigate deeper ? Please send the via email, to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com, making sure to reference the topic as the subject of the email.
If needed, here’s the procedure to collect NoMachine logs: NoMachine – Collect Server And Client Logs Manually – Knowledge Base
Best regards
BilbotineParticipantWe are glad it is solved!
BilbotineParticipantHi Steve,
1/ No, there is no official document that I can sare with you about these difference.
2/ Yes, copy and paste works out of the box, both ways.
Files can also be copied using drag and drop. When using this method, they are dropped on to the ‘other desktop’.
Note that the browser doesn’t allow to have direct access to the system clipboard, so an intermediate copy to a clipbard window is needed. More info about it can be found here.
Once your test environment is set, don’t hesitate to come back to us if needed, through the forums or via our Support section.
BilbotineParticipantHi smat70xc,
The logs you sent us don’t show anything wrong.
But from your description, it seems that the problem is on the client side on that machine (Manjaro).
Considering this, please check the player side logs (they are in ~/.nx ), and tell us what error it says, etc.
BilbotineParticipantHi Steve,
There is no difference in terms of features and UI between NX and SSH. The difference in look and feel is mostly imperceptible.
On the other side, connections from a browser (HTTPS) have some differences, simply because it is not possible to implement some of the featues via the browser (e.g. the forwarding of USB devices).
Moreover, the browser doesn’t allow to use some of the performance-oriented optimizations, that are possible in the native client, so performance and display quality could be slightly worse.
That said, we recommend to try NoMachine in your environment, because that’s the best way to test performances and to see if it corresponds to your expectations and needs.
BilbotineParticipantYou are welcome ! We are glad it is solved 🙂
BilbotineParticipantHi DigIT,
It looks like you haven’t added the permission on “Privacy & Security” -> “Screen recording”. On Sonoma it is “Screen & System Audio Recording”.
Please check and let us know if this solves your issue ?
BilbotineParticipantHi rfemali3,
There was an upload error, can you please send us the files via email, to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com, making sure to reference the topic as the subject of the email ?
Thanks
BilbotineParticipantHello n6ac,
Please try the following: enable “NoMachine” in the “Local Network” section that you’ll find in “Privacy & Security”, and log in again, to load the options.
Let us know if it works !
Thanks

Then let’s try something else, if you agree: could you send us the two scripts you mentioned earlier ( Start_de.sh and stop_de.sh ) , by email ?
You can send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com, making sure to reference the topic as the subject of the email.
Thank you!
BilbotineParticipantHe Steve92,
Thank you for reaching out; we have an article explaining the the difference between the NX and SSH protocols : NoMachine – What Is The Difference Between The NX And SSH Protocols? – Knowledge Base
Please have a look, and let us know if you have further questions !
August 28, 2024 at 16:29 in reply to: Connection made but not able to steer mouse or use keyboard #49430BilbotineParticipantHi Chaoimin,
Thank you for sending the logs; we checked them and they are clean, so unfortunately, the option we provided previously didn’t work.
Can you try this option instead: DisplayServerExtraOptions “-eventdelay 0” ? We are not sure it will resolve the issue, but let’s try anyway.
We would also like to know the output of this command:
DISPLAY=:0 xinput list –long
Thanks!
BilbotineParticipantHi froZZen,
Could you please re-enable Wayland, reproduce the issue and gather the logs (both server and client sides) ?
If needed, here’s the procedure to collect NoMachine logs: NoMachine – Collect Server And Client Logs Manually – Knowledge Base
You can then send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com, making sure to reference the topic as the subject of the email.
Thanks !
