Hi,
I was able to reproduce this issue on AWS EC2 machines and can confirm that USB device forwarding does not work on it.
The reason is that in that type of machine Universal Serial Bus Controllers drivers are missing on the Device Manager. Usually, that happens on VM because of USB functionality is disabled in VM’s settings. For now, we are trying to find a solution for that.
Could you please share some info about what type of VM you use on AWS? And as well as attach a screenshot of Devices Manager?
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
Do you see the local and remote devices on the USB devices forwarding tab?
Can you please attach a screen with that tab?
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
That means that on your client machine NoMachine USB forwarding module is not correctly installed or it’s disabled.
Can you please send us NM logs as described in AR10K00697
And a screenshot of the Devices Manager, with a list of all devices on the machine.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
Do you see on that panel any other USB device? Please pay attention to the article “What to do if USB support is disabled on Linux with NoMachine 6 or later installed”( AR12J00658) and check if nxusb.ko is compiled on your Linux machine?
Screenshot from the devices panel will also be helpful for the investigation.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
I wasn’t able to reproduce the same issue on my Debian machine, and most probably it’s caused by some issue with user rights.
Can you please check the few following things?
1. Does this directory exists?
/usr/NX/var/run/nxusb/
This folder should have the following rights drwxr-xr-x
2. Does it contains “/usr/NX/var/run/nxusb/lock” file?
If the directory exists but there is no “lock” file, please try to create it manually and set the following rights: rw-rw-r–
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi Tom,
The issue, you have faced, was reproduced in our lab and we have created TR for it. https://www.nomachine.com/TR05R09712
Please subscribe to it, to be informed when it will be closed.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi Tom,
Regarding mouse erratic behaviour, we confirm that your case is the same as described in TR https://www.nomachine.com/TR12Q09486
Regarding, your cloud server configuration, we are making progress in our lab. Monday will come back to you with updates.
Giorgi-G.ContributorWelcome.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
Sorry I missed the second one. But it’s not complete. Am I right that you still don’t see any remote device, as I had them on my (VM Ware Virtual USB Mouse and Bluetooth)?
Do you use the default admin user to connect to your remote Mac?
Could you send us the full set of the logs from the server. Please see here for further instructions:
https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00163#1.3
You can send them directly to forum[at]nomachine[com] . Please use the title of your topic as the subject.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi MacDuff,
You have attached the wrong screen. Can you please attach the same screen I have attached in my post few posts earlier. With local and remote devices.
Also, do not forget to check your internet connection and ping time to the remote server. If you want to share iPhone as a USB device, you definitely need to have a solid internet connection to it.
I.e. in my case ping time to the remote mac is less than 30ms.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi,
What version of the NoMachine application do you use?
Looks like your nxusb.ko is compiled for 5.0.0-37-generic but your current kernel version is 5.3.0-51-generic, which means that you need to rebuild your nxusb.ko. Maybe you have updated your Linux kernel after NoMachine installation?
First of all, install Linux headers for your current kernel as it’s described here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR12J00658
Further, you can manually compile your nxusb.ko as described in the same article, or just reinstall NoMachine.
Giorgi-G.ContributorAt your client logs, I find a line:
16:14:01 270.803 DeviceIoUsbWindowsClient: USB Service is not running.
So you need to check conflicting software on your client-side, not the server.
Also, can you please launch the “Services” application and check, does NoMachine Devices Server has “Running” status?
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi Tom,
I still try to reproduce your issue on our machines. Meanwhile, can you please explain, what you mean with ‘erratic mouse behavior’ in your configuration?
Thanks.
Giorgi-G.ContributorHi Tom,
Thanks for your questions! I have some more, to clarify what you want to do.
1. What OS you have on the machine with NoMachine Cloud Server Installed?
2.
Firstly, for USB devices to successfully connect (from Client to Enterprise Desktop), I’ve found that it’s necessary to authenticate with NoMachine using the Local Administrator account credentials for our Enterprise Desktops, not an Active Directory account (with or without admin privileges on the Enterprise Desktop)
To successfully connect or to be able to use a connected device?
3.
We would want all of our students and staff to authenticate with NoMachine using their (non-admin) Active Directory credentials.
All of your students will be connected to one server? And will forward their mouses to it? Or only one student will be connected to one server, but just under the AD account, not admin.
4.
I think I’ve generally got it working (some clients but not all).
The USB forwarded device from the client to the server depends only on the server. So if it works well with one client it also should work with any other clients. Can you please explain in more detail, what is wrong in your case?
5. For sessions, you use Virtual Desctop, not physical desktop connection right?
6.
Is it also the case that a Client user needs to have admin privileges on the Client computer to be able to forward USB devices to an Enterprise Desktop?
No. It doesn’t matter.

Hi, can you please try the same test I have described in my previous message?
And attach your Connect a USB device panel screen.
