KeymasterThis free version is only for connecting to the physical desktop. It’s equivalent amongst the pay-for version is Enterprise Desktop.
In the terminal server range, which is dedicated to offering multiple virtual Linux desktops, only specific users are allowed to connect to the physical desktop:
I Privileged system users (root or ‘sudo’ users)
II NoMachine administrators
III NoMachine users trusted for connections to the physical desktop
IV The desktop ownerSee more about this in section 10 of the Workstation guide: https://www.nomachine.com/DT03O00126. There you will find details on how to add specific users to allow them to connect to the physical display.

KeymasterThe forums can’t handle potential issues with 3.5.0 servers (or clients) and this version is now legacy, so should we receive logs for this particular topic, it will be handled accordingly by the support team.

KeymasterHi, to access your remote Windows (on which you must have installed NoMachine) you will also need NoMachine on the iPhone. At the moment, NoMachine for iOS is only available for iPads, but an optimized version for the iPhone is going to be released very soon. You can sign up to receive notification of when it’s available by clicking ‘notify me’ next to the Feature Request here: https://www.nomachine.com/FR02N03015.

KeymasterThis particular feature, booting into safe mode and NoMachine starting automatically, is not currently supported. We are evaluating whether it can be added to our roadmap.

KeymasterFra81 was suggesting that you try the Workstation because this is the product that offers the virtual Linux desktop functionality (it’s the link that you pasted, from the enterprise Terminal Server range). You have installed the free version which offers remote access to the physical desktop of the remote host you are connecting to.
Try the evaluation and let us know if this solves the issue.

KeymasterI think I must have been editing my reply whilst you were posting yours 🙂
At the moment, dragging a folder is not supported. Only files, single or multiple, can be dragged and they will be dropped on to the desktop. The implementation of this Feature Request will make copying files and folders easier letting you visualize two panes (remote vs local) .

KeymasterHi, we raised priority on this FR and it will be implemented in an upcoming maintenance.

KeymasterIn the past when I connected to the nx server I could choose from a list of sessions.
Do you mean version 3.5.0? If so, NX Free Edition was replaced by the Workstation. This allows you to run virtual Linux desktops (up to 4) and then you will have a list of sessions available.

KeymasterDrag and drop should be working. Can you confirm what the OS and version is on your side and what you are connecting to? And what type of file are you trying to drag?
I realize now I wasn’t clear enough. You don’t need to connect a disk to be able to drag and drop, you should just be able to drag a file (not folder) and drop it on the desktop (remote to local or local to remote). Does this work? If not, tell me your OS and version both sides, so we can investigate 🙂

KeymasterAre you referring to the issue you reported here? https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=6fea2bf614c469aafdd8d467114932bc&p=5835315
It seems it was an nvidia problem? Is it now resolved?
For more information about how NoMachine handles software and hardware encoding on, not just on Linux, please take a look at the article in our KB here:
What do I need to do to allow NoMachine software to use H.264?

KeymasterThis will work, but remember that before attempting to do anything like this it is strongly advised to make a back up.
Britgirl
KeymasterIt’s not currently supported though our developers are in the final stages of getting this implemented which will allow you to utilize HW decoding on Linux via the vaapi decoder directly rather than through ffmpeg libs: https://www.nomachine.com/FR06O03453. You can sign up to receive a notification of when it’s been released if you wish.

KeymasterAn FYI to everyone in this discussion, this topic is a spin off from Zardoc’s earlier topic:
https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/could-not-connect-to-the-server-error-is-11001-host-not-foundMarch 19, 2018 at 09:39 in reply to: Could not connect to the server. Error is 11001: Host not found #17930Britgirl
Keymaster@Zardoc, I’ve split of two recent replies you posted which are different questions and unrelated to the host not found issue you originally submitted. You can find them here:
https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/drag-and-drop-not-working
https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/how-to-boot-machine-in-safe-mode-from-an-outbound-connection
Here is your reply to my original question whether restarting the nxserver on the affected host helps or not, so we don’t lose the thread:
Nope it does not work. At least I can access.
The only thing I can suggest is for you to wait for the TR to be fixed. The simplest solution is to use the Network feature when we release it. This will eliminate port forwarding on the router and the need for the IP address (mentioned in an earlier reply).

Keymasteryou have file transfer, not folder transfer unless you zip. Also you can’t drag and drop from one machine to another.
File transfer is done via the !M in the system tray from the remote computer to the local desktop. You’ve probably seen the tutorial here: https://www.nomachine.com/sharing-files-between-computers
By folder transfer, do you mean ‘Connect a disk or drive’? You can do that via the connection menu.
– Start a connection from your computer to the remote computer you want to access.
– Once connected, open the session menu (Ctrl-Alt-0).
– Go to Devices and click on ‘Connect a disk’.Any disk drives available either on your PC/Mac or the remote one will show up like below, and you select the one you want to access.
A remote disk will show up in your local file explorer or finder. A local disk or drive will show up in your remote desktop’s explorer or finder.
Can you try this and let us know that it works?
