You might find this useful: https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00702 which explains the difference between the free to download NoMachine and the Workstation packages for Linux. More about the Workstation is also here: https://www.nomachine.com/product&p=NoMachine%20Workstation
BritgirlKeymasterHave you installed the Workstation? The free NoMachine for Linux does not provide the virtual desktop functionality.
BritgirlKeymasterPlease read here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00711 which explains what you get when you opt for one of the products from the Enterprise Server and Terminal Server families. If you would like further information about the licensing model, I suggest you contact sales.
BritgirlKeymaster@sogold and @brad73435, do you mean that you don’t want to connect to the physical display of your remote Linux server? See the following similar posts:

BritgirlKeymasterHi, yes 🙂 Check this FAQ https://www.nomachine.com/AR03L00795
BritgirlKeymasterCan you resubmit it, or send to issues[at]nomachine[dot]com?
BritgirlKeymasterWhat’s the Linux distribution and version?
What version of KDE is it?
BritgirlKeymasterDo you want to be able to run virtual Linux desktops on the Suse host? If so, you should take a look at the Terminal Server range to start off with: https://www.nomachine.com/comparison-terminal-server-products
Then depending on your choice you can download from here: https://www.nomachine.com/download-enterprise
You can download directly from the website. The guide here provides all the command line instructions to install on Linux: https://www.nomachine.com/DT01L00062
If none of these are for you, then NoMachine for Linux (free to download and install) will give you access to the physical display of the remote host.
For optimal performance., i.e. to take advantage of the functionalities in version 4, you will need version 4 client and server. You mention NX Client which has been superceded. If you are a customer with a support contract for 3.5.0, please contact us via the traditional support channels.
March 26, 2014 at 10:22 in reply to: Trouble resolving "The connection to the server was lost" error #2812BritgirlKeymasterHi ian, the system is your Linux computer (the server).
Please tell us
– NoMachine product on local and remote machine (free version, Workstation, etc).
– Remote Linux version (Ubuntu xyz, Mint x.y, etc.).
And if possible the logs: https://www.nomachine.com/AR07K00677
You can attach them here or send them to issues[at]nomachine[dot]com .
BritgirlKeymasterHi, we are trying to support all possible distro/WM combinations. Scientific Linux is not currently in our supported distros list. See this article for more information:
https://www.nomachine.com/AR11K00740
That said, to allow us to check what’s going on we will need full set of logs from server side. You can attach them here or send them to issues[at]nomachine[dot]com .
https://www.nomachine.com/AR07K00677
Additionally, please list the X server running on your server, you can do it by executing:
# ps axuwww| grep X
BritgirlKeymasterSorry for your headache, Jasonridesabike. We aren’t aware of keyboard on Mac being mixed up in Ubuntu. Are all the keys mixed up or just some? Would it be possible for you to send us the logs so we can take a look?
Enable, reproduce, extract and attach here. Alternatively, send to issues[at]nomachine[dot]com.
BritgirlKeymasterCan you tell me what error messages you are getting or what happened when you installed on your XP machine. We do have a TR open on XP but it is related to the running of sessions on an XP NoMachine server (https://www.nomachine.com/TR02L04266).
If you want to just install a client, you can install Enterprise Client. Scroll down on this page https://www.nomachine.com/download-enterprise to Enterprise Client.
BritgirlKeymasterHi, all our server products contain the connection GUI (client). A separate client package is available, “Enterprise Client” which is just the connection GUI and not a server. Scroll down to Enterprise Client to get the client for your OS, https://www.nomachine.com/download-enterprise
You can also disable the Whiteboard, the following tells you what to edit in the configuration files on the server: https://www.nomachine.com/FR12K02798
You say that you would prefer an Enterprise Server installation. If you were using NX Enterprise Server in version 3, you have downloaded the correct product: Terminal Server for Linux. This is the replacement to NX Enterprise Server 3.5.0.
BritgirlKeymaster@CBruce, we weren’t able to reproduce this. Can you send us the logs? Follow the instructions here: https://www.nomachine.com/AR07K00677
Reproduce the issue once you’ve enabled them, zip them up and attach here. Or alternatively, send them to issues[at]nomachine[dot].com
BritgirlKeymasterHi, can you contact us via issues[at]nomachine[dot]com? We need to send you a package for testing. Thanks!
