It’s better to check the logs so we can see why the desktop is not available. Are you able to send us the logs from the NoMachine Mac server, so we can check them? You can extract them using the instructions here: https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243. Make sure you enable debug first and then reproduce the problem. Send the logs to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Is a paid version required to configure ssh?
Yes, on the server host you are connecting to. It does not matter which client is running on the device you are connecting from. The free NoMachine edition, when installed on the server side, does not support connections by SSH. SSH is supported in any of the products of the Enterprise suite. Try Enterprise Desktop for example, which is like the Free Edition, but offers not just SSH support but also sessions from a Web browser, remote admin and more. Or, if you are connecting to Linux and are interested in running multiple Linux desktops on the same host, try one of the products from the Terminal Server family. They are all freely available to download and try as evaluation software.
What you might like to try is tunneling the NX protocol in a SSH connection. Pre-requisite is to have a SSH client on your client machine and a SSH server on your server machine. See the following article for more details.

What macOS version are you connecting to?
You mentioned that permissions seem to be correct. Check in Accessibility, Screen Recording and Full Disk Access that NoMachine and nxnode (a component of NoMachine) have been correctly added in the Privacy panel? Remove and add again if necessary. This article shows the panels to check: https://kb.nomachine.com/AR11Q01061. Restart the nxserver. Does that help?
When you updated NoMachine, did you also update your Linux system?
When you say headless, do you mean ‘Headless Start’ rather than ‘Normal Start’ in Virtualbox? If you select ‘Normal Start’, do you get the same issue?
Please try adding this option in /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg
DisplayServerExtraOptions "-eventdelay 0"and try a new connection.
When executing the
--serveradd command, NoMachine verifies admin rights to access the CS by asking for a admin password. The next step is to add a public key, which gives it access to that host, assuming NoMachine is the admin of that host. By sending a public key as you mentioned, the admin verification is skipped, allowing you to add a node to the CS without requiring a sudo/admin password.No mean to specify IP address of the machine to add as a node, we have to be logged on it ?
Yes, the node will be connecting to the CS; we do not have a specific node address

You wrote Linux but you mean Windows, right? What error message are you seeing when you attempt to login?

Hi, there is no setting for what you are asking. With NoMachine, when a remote computer is a headless machine, we create a virtual display (an embedded X server). This display is not connected to the local input devices, so they can’t be used.
Hi, did you install as sudo? If not, uninstall, remove all traces of NoMachine, and then reinstall as sudo.

How to specify he is only administrator of a specified group of nodes ? We want him to be allowed to add, modify, remove nodes only on ECS for his group.
Having an “administrator of a group of machines (but not others)” is not currently supported in the CS design. We can evaluate opening a feature request.
Do you see something like the attached when trying to make changes? It is strange that you can’t quit the Player. What message appears, if any, when trying to quit the Player from the system tray?

Hi, can you tell us how you disabled HW acceleration on the client and server machines? Hardware encoding is disabled for the server in the server settings of the UI i.e the NoMachine server won’t perform encoding in the session. But hardware decoding is disabled in the session menu or in the player.cfg which is located on the machine you are connecting from. When you are connected to the desktop with NoMachine, open the menu (Ctrl-Alt-0) > Display > Change settings > Options, button Modify (https://kb.nomachine.com/DT09T00267#5.8), click the box next to ‘Disable client side hardware decoding’. Does that make any difference?
